I don't think the 2000 plates with the blue/white/yellow gradient is bad. I hate the newer ones with the solid colors. I do wish we had something a little less boring. Texas has great plates.

Not as bad as Maryland's tags. Same damn tags for over 20 years! Plain jane white with a tiny shield. Come on!

They were ok when they came out-they replaced a plain black and white with no logo on it. I have the Chesapeake Bay plates on my vehicles, have since they came out, and my truck has the Ducks Unlimited tag.

I also think the best plate was the "you've got a friend in Pennsylvania"

They really should bring that back.

Most of the ppl in Alabama I've talked with don't like those plates either. We used to have The Heart of Dixie, but using the word dixie is now politically incorrect. God forbid we say, "Dixie".

Florida and Georgia used to have beautiful general-issue licence plates

but have since gotten quite ugly, especially Georgia.

The best license plates, aesthetically speaking, were issued back in the 1930s.

As far as plate mottoes are concerned, I feel uncomfortable with any that use the word "America" synonymously with the USA. "America," per se, is an ambiguous term. Even more so is the Virginia plate which proclaimed "America's 400th Anniversary" (and followed the far superior and to the point Jamestown 400th anniversary plate) which really meant "The 400th anniversary of permanent British settlement on the North American continent."

Seeing that it was grammatically incorrect and made us look like morons, I'm glad that one is gone.

I like the embossed liberty bell on the first one and the embossed legend font on the 3rd one.

The blue and yellow Pennsylvania plates from the 40's, 50s etc where everything was contained within a map of the state were among some of the best general issues in the USA at the time. I can think of a few states which were better, like Florida and Louisiana for example, among others with interesting embossed fonts, designs as well as color combinations and shapes.

Pennsylvania holds the distinction of offering attractive special issue plates unlike any others currently offered anywhere else on planet Earth!

I apologize for all the posts, I'd add this to an existing post if I was able to edit. I just have so many things to say about license plates!
