Hi there. Congrats on your new adventure! I grew up on the Erie area (North East), and had returned for a few years while DH worked at GE. We have since moved to Milwaukee, and I soooo wish we could go back!

What school are you going to for pharmacy? That might influence what part of town to live in, definitely. For LECOM, you'd be best off in Millcreek. I lived in Millcreek (SE) and Harborcreek, and really liked both, although I think Harborcreek is definitely underrated and overlooked by people moving into town. With the Bayfront Connector, it's only 10-15 minutes from downtown, and the school district is very good (much better than where we are now).

Yes, snow is definitely the only major hassle. It doesn't get super cold, but Erie gets a boatload of snow (avg close to 100 inches - away from the airport!). One thing, though, tire chains are illegal in PA. Just invest in a good set of snow tires and you'll be fine. Erie County does not really plow the roads all that well, so you will find that the tires are worth it.

But, there are some really great places (some of which were named in previous posts) to check out, and definitely spend some time at Presque Isle. Plus you will be only a few hours (or less) from Cleveland, Buffalo (and Niagara Falls and Canada), and Pittsburgh. Feel free to PM for more info. Best wishes on your upcoming move!
