Early 30s Chattanooga couple seeking advice on a possible transfer. No kids, schools are not a factor.
Between the 3, which would you choose? Things we take into account: the least "sprawl" possible, traffic, VARIETY in restaurants (needs to be plenty of rest.)!!, entertainment (shopping, walking), the locals, housing insurance and property taxes.

Note that we have not been to Ft. Myers but it is on our "to-go" list.

Please feel free to answer if you live there or have visited all places. Remeber, which would you rather live not visit

Many thanks everyone

My favorite is St. Pete, especially the downtown area. It is the only one on your list that is even remotely progressive, so plenty of good restaurants, entertainment, etc. It's also a great place for 30-somethings. Florida is all about sprawl so you might need to forget about that requirement.

Lived in both Pensacola and Fort Myers and I find both to be depressing. I stated on the "Chinese Community" thread in the Pensacola Forum that there is no Trader Joe's or Costco in Pensacola and that it's more of a WalMart/Sam's kind of place. I was given a positive rep by someone who left this comment: "And that's the way we like it." That about sums it up.

Is Ft. Myers that small? I was under the impression it was a semi-large(r) city with more of the big city amenities.

I didn't say Fort Myers was small. I was just giving you my impression of living there, which I did not enjoy. It is not a "vibrant" city and I found it a bit depressing. Lots of seniors from the Midwest and a lot of "ghetto" areas. Just not my cup of tea.

I understand what Austin is saying, but the sprawl in St Pete is crazy. Yes, there is more to do, but so much jammed into that area now, it's crazy.

I cannot comment on the other areas but I guarantee you will feel the same about Pensacola. Sure, the beaches are great, but nothing more. I'm definitely not trying to say that some people don't enjoy living here (although I cannot personally rationalize why), but I try to dissuade as many people as possible from moving here. Sorry to sound so negative. I'm just ready for slightly bigger and much better things.
