I am searching for a deceased WWII Vet of which I only know his first & middle name. My Grandmother had a child with this man. My Aunt was told his name was Richard Franklin ________? She was told he was 6' tall & had an Irish last name. He was stationed at the Santa Rosa Army Air Base in California. Sometime in 1945 he was deployed in a cargo plane that was shot down & he died.
My grandmother was 21 years-old & was not married to him. But she was notified by the military of his death during her pregnancy. My Aunt was born on 2-2-1946. She was likely conceived around April 1945. Therefore, he was deployed after that timeframe.
I've tried searching WWII Memorials to no avail. Does anyone have a knowledge of how to find WWII planes deployed from Santa Rosa Army Air Base in California that were shot down?
Unfortunately, I don't know what state he was from. I just recently learned of this from my Aunt. My grandmother passed & left no additional info for my Aunt to follow up on. I appreciate the above info!!!
Marnie :~)
