Steven Michael Truax doesn't know where she is anymore. Still searching.
Ugh! I just lost this long message and don't have a copy and can't remember it all.
There is a Carolyn Chance listed in Ft Worth Texas at some time, no dates listed, that lists a bday as the same date, but the year being 1960. Some listings say Carolyn Chance, some say Carolyn H. Chance - just find it interesting it's exact same date, with 1 year difference.
Also, the person listed as Steven Michael Truax at those addresses is listed as being born in 1972, 11 years Carolyn's junior. When was she married/divorce from him??
Where does the name Chance come from if it's Morse/Popps? Was she married to a Chance, or was she adopted by a Chance?
Have you googled her ss#? What are the first 4 digits? Maybe call the SS administration and with the ss# you have maybe they can tell you if that ss# is active, or has been inactive. You aren't asking for anything else. Being it's government they may not be helpful.

MrBillM - I saw the listing for Truax with the same cities you listed. It lists a DOB as 1972 and appears this is a Steven Michael Truax Jr. I'm guessing it's possibly his son as it lists the same name as relative to the above, and one of the same cities.

From post #9 it was said that she was married and divorced before (or by) age 18 with Truax being her previous husband.
The last name Chance, if by marriage, would have to have come before age 18 and before the Truax marriage or after Truax by at least 5 years due to the relationship mentioned in post 9.
Someone started a Family Tree on one site and the last date I saw was 2012.
Maybe the Op started that Popp tree (?)
Mrs. Popp appears to have possibly been born in 1942. Which is old enough for Carolyn to be born January 1961.
If someone has access to the alternative 1950 census through Ancestry maybe look for Popp as the daughter in the household.

If the OP would be able to verify some of the info, and again, what this Don said, if anything was valid/invalid it would be helpful. I find it interesting he referred to her as "Carol" and not "Carolyn"
