I am looking for a half sister named Jean (Jeanne?), born in the late 1940's, possibly in the Chicago area. Her mother took her to a friend/relative's house in Cayuga, IN, so our dad could come over from Danville,IL, to see her. He then drove Jean and her mother to Chicago and I don't believe he saw her again but he told my older sister about her, that her name was Jean, and that she had dimples. He's gone now but we think he wanted us to find her. We would love to meet you, Jean.

Have you searched facebook too? I've seen folks post this type thing..then it gets reposted and forwarded and circulates through facebook..Good luck to you. Ask if you need help putting it on facebook.
Thank you, JanND. Yes, I've been searching Facebook and am very close to posting on the Facebook page, "PeopleSeekingPeople", which sounds like it's had a lot of success finding people. I'm waiting to hear back from a couple more relatives before I go completely public with this.
More info - I found a Jeanne Baker, Class of 1967, North Vermillion HS, Cayuga, IN. Since I'm not sure of my half sister's last name, I'm wondering if this could be her. Does anyone know Jeanne Baker, and if her name is still Baker?
I've also found a Jeanne Poland who lived in Springs mobile home park in Galesburg, IL, in 1991. I found a site listing her as a member of the class of 1967 at Galesburg HS but the school could not find a record for her. Any of this familiar to anyone?
Update - I've pretty much ruled out Jeanne Baker...found out she passed away in 1993, and talked to her sister who felt it was highly unlikely Jeanne had a different father than the rest of her siblings.
Also ruled out Jeanne Poland who lived in Galesburg...found a sister and apparent father in Abingdon IL, which is close to Galesburg.
I'm still researching a number of "Jean's", and awaiting results of a birth certificate search by the Vermillion County IN Health Department.
I think my best hope is that Jean will see my posts and contact me. In the meantime, I'll still keep trying to find you, Jean!
Update - I heard back from Vermilion County Indiana. They found 6 records of girls named Jean/Jeanne/Jeanie, born 1947-1949. I checked all these out but none appear to be the one I'm looking for. I've also contacted Fountain, Warren, and Montgomery Counties in Indiana. No luck in Montgomery, and still waiting to hear back from Fountain and Warren. I plan to travel to IL/IN this summer to do some of this searching in person.
I talked to Salvation Army, who does family searches, but they require a minimum of full name and date of birth so they can't help me but it's something to keep in mind for others of you who have more information on your missing person than I.
I now have a spreadsheet of 2000 people named Jean who are potential matches, and am checking each one out but it's a very long, slow process. If anyone out there knows someone from Illinois or Indiana named Jean who might have questioned who her father was, please relay my story to her or let me know her name so I can follow up.
Yes, MrBillM, that's the correct year of my dad's death. Marguerite Poland was my mother. To avoid any confusion, I have two sisters, Jane Louise (b.1933) and Barbara Jean (b.1934). Ironic that the half sister I'm looking for has Jean as her first name although I don't know how it's spelled.
Oh ok. I was hoping maybe Barbara Jean might be her.
