I would appreciate corresponding with anyone who may have worked for C.A. Lund, making snowshoes, in Hastings or St Paul back in the 1940's, 50's or later.
Hi, I'm not a former employee but found your note with Google and am hoping you'll answer. I'm getting into antiques and have become addicted to auctions, accumulating lots of stuff. Last week I bought a pair of snowshoes in Excellent condition, On the wood near the toe it reads U.S.C.A. LUND Prescott Wis and on the metal part where you step into them it reads U.S, 1945. I'm wondering about their history, the auctioneer thought they were military. I'm in Central New York and in Northern NY is Camp Drum, the base for the 10th Mountain Divison, so I'm thinking they may have come from there, Do you think the 1945 means they were made then? I'd love to hear from you, Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Sincerely, Mary Griff
Mary: I own a pair of those snowshoes. The left foot was made by CA Lund in 1945 at Prescott Wisconsin. The right foot was made identically by CA Lund in 1945 at Hastings, Minnesota. The metal binding is stamped 1945 as yours are. I think that CA Lund had a contract with the Army to make the shoes. Mine were new when I bought them from a war surplus dealer in Seattle. I can attest that they work well. I hope you connect with someone who worked for Lund in 1945.

I have a pair of US C. A. Lund, Hastings, Minn. Bear Paw snow shoes in great condition. One thing is different concerning the pair I have: Dover is spelled Dovre on mine. Anyone else have it spelled that way? And, does anyone know the value of these WW11 1944 snow shoes?
I have a beautiful pair of C.A. Lund snow shoes over my fireplace in Michigan. I would appreciate any information anyone has about these great shoes, or about the Hastings, MN company that produced them. --JR
C. A. Lund Company was a division of the Northland Ski Company from St. Paul, MN. Northland opened the C. A. Lund Ski and Snowshoe plant in Hastings, MN in 1927. During World War II, they produced about 400 pair of snowshoes a day.
The C. A. Lund factory burned to the ground on January 6, 1945, destroying thousands of snowshoe frames. The Northland Company in St. Paul took over making the frames, while the Lund Company found other places, such as Prescott, WI to install the webbing.
After the fire, C. A. Lund Company moved their operation to North St. Paul, MN and continued to make skis and snowshoes.
