Hello -

I am looking for imformation regarding a farming family by the name of Brown (ha!) the family was definately operating in 1880, possibly as early as 1840. The farm, I believe, is still operating today - if not, the farm could have merged with another old family farm in the same community. I know this is vague, but I would appreciate any information or leads.

Thanks -

Any idea of what part of Texas? If you know what county you can try looking up that county on rootsweb and see if they have any information on the history of the family or the farm.

Default Thanks

Hi!

Obviously my first thought was Brown County - I can't locate anything. Does anyone have a copy of the 1880 census? I know that name Brown will show up - I am thinking the location was central or south. Is there anything near the south eastern part of the state where I could look?

I appreciate your time and ideas -

OMY, even in the 1880's the population of Texas was not small. You can look on the website of rootsweb for census information by state and county. I would also recommend doing a family name search on that site along w/ genealogy.com. Those are two of my favorite websites for genealogy. Do you know where the family would have come from to settle in Texas? This is also usually listed on the census. It will help to have some kind of information to go on other than just the very common last name. If you have dates, a first name, birthplace or place of death on the rootsweb site you can also "search family trees" which is located on the left side of the mainpage.
