If you had the money, would you go to college and get the degree of your choice or buy a condo in a location you desire?

If I had alot of money, I would get the condo. At least I can run a home based business. What can you get with a college degree? Maybe a piece of paper which you can blow your nose with. There are lots of people that have degrees but they are out of work and having trouble getting a job.

There is no way to answer this question in a vacuum. In fact, I have lots of follow-up questions.

Do you mean get your first college degree, or go back and get a second one in a field that interests you? And what do you mean by "had the money"? Is that all the money you have, or do you have a bunch of other assets? What are they? Why can't you run a home based business out of an apartment? What's the unemployment rate of college degree holders vs non-degree holders? Why are you treating all degrees the same? And so on and so on....

I can get a degree for a whole lot less money than a condo.

College degree, even in a fantasy scenario where a condo costs the same. A degree qualifies me to obtain higher qualifications (CPA) in my field (accounting/tax). Condo would limit my mobility and requires costs in the form of HOA fees, property taxes, and maintenance.

If someone wants to be a lawyer, doctor, teacher... of course college degree.

If you hate learning and have zero interest in academic stuff, it may be good to start a business soon.

A degree is going to make you more money. A condo is a money pit.

Good point about age. Assuming you're not at or near the point of retirement (where a degree could be fun, but isn't going to pay off from a financial point of view), then the degree is going to give you a whole lot more earning power in your future.

That said, no reason to spend a fortune on a degree. And if you hate or are terrible at school maybe focus on options other than the traditional four-year degree route.

I'd have no interest in owning a CON-DO aka glorified apartment.
