You are part owner of a company , usually a very small part owner.... .oo1 = one stock in abc corp. as an example .
Also , the company is public and traded on an exchange ie; NYSE

No, the highest number would be how ever many stocks the company has issued. It could be 10 stocks or 10,000,000.
