Nine years ago I got married and took my husband's name. For the first year or so I occasionally received junk mail in my name. However, since then we have moved (to different states) twice, and I have not received any mail in my maiden name - until the past week. In the past week I've received two credit card offers under my maiden name, which should not be connected with this address.

Any idea why? Should I be concerned?

I wouldn't be. Mailing lists get bought and sold and consolidated so much that it's not uncommon. Our dog still gets the occasional offer for a credit card. Somewhere her name is on a list with our address.

Play it safe, do a free credit report on yourself to make sure no one has stolen your identity.

They might be for somebody else, who has a name that matches your maiden name, and the junk mailer lists got crossed-matched with your address. I live in an apartment complex, where there are two other people with my last name. I am now getting their junk mail, bearing their name but my apartment number.

If you go to one of the lookup websites and check our your name, you will see "possibly related to" with names out of your past that you've long since forgotten, even former neighbors and people that they are possibly related to.

Junk mailers are ruthless. When address lists are sold, they get expanded and padded through every possible error, growing to impossible dimensions.

I still sometimes get mail addressed to my ex-husband even though we were divorced in 1989, I haven't used his last name since the divorce, and I've moved EIGHT TIMES since then.
