It very much can. The thought process as explained to me by someone who was a hiring manager at a bank is that people with bad credit, is bad with managing money, have a tendancy to get into money cruch problems, and thereby have a higher chance of theft.
even if it was a one-time health-related event 20 years ago
It varies from bank to bank. Some consider a bankruptcy as no issue but outstanding obligations are. As long as the bank uses the same matrix across the board they can set their perimeters.
Put your cards on the table when you interview.
Because someone who repudiated their debt is a better hire than someone who didn't and can't pay.
by your credit score and group association. they do not care to sift through who is naughty or nice in that group , if by credit score you are in the low score group , tag your it. it is easier to just move on to a higher scored individual.
what's a group association? i have no FICO due to inactivity; i figure with the judgments i couldn't get credit anyway do no point applying.
I have seen job ads for various banking and credit union positions, and even in cases where one would have no access to money (ie., Marketing dept), the ad clearly stated that anyone applying would have to pass a credit check.
CREDIT CHECK- BACKGROUND CHECK - DRUG TEST
these are being used for screening by more company's today than not.
good or bad , when you have so many applicants for jobs these act as the filter
what's a background check going to check other than criminal record (and, of course, the separate credit issues that would be covered by the credit check)?
i try to keep a low profile and have lived at addresses (one to six years at a time) not on my credit report. would that be a problem in a background check?
there can be so many reasons for a low score ranging from no fault of your own to the fact you are not responsible with money or just make poor decisions in life that lead up to financial issues.
the reasoning is if you can't handle your own money what are you going to do with the company's resources ?
plus there is an element of distrust carried over from the insurance industry study's.
why should any employer bother to waste time playing detective when they simply can just move on to the next applicant .
they're already playing detective by performing multiple checks.
they're already playing detective by performing multiple checks.
they are getting a simple concise report today with one click that includes everything . it is all facts . what they don't have to do is waste time interrogating you to see if they can figure out if you are a good hire or a poor one based on that info .
so much easier not to bother with the screening aspects and just move on to the next applicant
