I have a grown son on Social Security Disability (SSI). He normally does not have to file taxes at all since that is the only money he receives. This year they have that tax refund/incentive thing and he would get $300 only IF he files. My understanding is that this money is not a gift and that he would have to file again next year and claim that money. Is that correct or not? I am not sure I want to hassle filing tax papers for him and then having to file again next year if that is the case.

He only needs to file for the 2007 in order to participate in the $300 + program. He would not have to file again next year unless they renew the program.

Rebate does not apply to SSI earnings. ONly the elderly SS amounts.
