I'll toss it in my bag, but it is usually sorted out within an hour or so. I almost always clean out my bag at night - change into a jar, bills re-organized neatly in their place. I'll keep some singles or a fiver in an outside pocket for a cup off coffee or something.
I don't carry huge amounts of cash. I pay cash at the gas station and at the restaurant supply store where they don't take checks. So sometimes I don't have any cash at all with me.
Bills get folded into an antique cigarette case which goes into a separate pocket in my purse. The cigarette case and a small case for my credit cards and ID are the only things in that pocket.
There is a small zippered pocket on the outside of the purse where I drop all coins.
I have that cigarette case in my hand when I pay and I just hold it while I receive my change. Bills immediately go into the case and change gets dropped into its picket.
The rest of the purse can be a mess because I just drop in all tax receipts and receipts for anything I might need to return. Those get sorted out eventually.
My late father would say " treat money with respect". Folded, neat in denomination order. Couple bucks in my pocket and a hundred or so in my wallet. Most purchases CC.
While at the store, if I use cash, my bill change gets stuffed into the cell phone area of my wallet. It's got a strap, I don't carry a purse.
When I get home, my phone gets pulled out, it's my internet device, and stuck on the charger, and then the bills get pulled, and smoothed. I take out my money from the bill section, and then sort it all...from ones to twenties, in order, all faced upright. I'm one of those.
Coins get dumped into a holder in my car. I use the coins for parking, change at the drive through, or the DIY carwash. If I get too many, the come in the house and dumped into the coin wrapper thingy...and when we get about 50 bucks I take it to the bank.
Sometimes I put the money in an inside jacket pocket until I can get to a place where I can sort it out. Then it goes in the wallet. My wallet has two slots for bills, one in front of the other. The ones and fives go in the front slot with tens, twenties and fifties in the back. All face the front. Coins go in the pocket until I get home and dump them in a jar. I keep @ five dollars in my pocket for small purchases and to help out people who are short on cash in checkout lines.
A friend lines his money up by denomination, facing front in serial number order. That's a step too far for me.
In another post someone said they had about 1,000 dollars around the house somewhere.
How do you treat your cash money day to day, if you even carry any?
-- Ladies do you just toss it in a handbag, loose?
-- Men do you just stuff it in a wallet, unorganized?
Personally, I know where ALL my money is. I can tell you what's in my purse, in the house, in my bank accounts -- to within five dollars, sometimes to the penny.
I had a coworker who just through her loose money in her handbag. She had change, loose bills just in the bag all over the place. I found that amazing. A group of us would order lunch or dinner, I'd go to collect her part, and she'd just open her bag -- and start digging and pulling out loose bills and change. She'd pull a One from one place, and dig out a Five from some place else, then she'd find another Five, and then maybe two Ones or Fives, at the bottom or behind something in the bag. Coin change was always at the bottom, of course.
We'd become close so I just asked her -- "how do you just through loose money in your bag like that." She sort of shrugged and said, "I'm always in a hurry at the store. So I just toss the change (and bills) in my purse to get later." I thought -- Okaaaaay. She was always the frazzled type, though. I just can't see putting loose money in my bag like that. But that was her......
(And in her other financial dealings...... she had other money, accounts, CD's, inheritance (stock and money) in the thousands -- she seemed quite on top of things. We'd talk about financial planning from time to time. She said she would change banks to earn extra interest. So it's not like she was casual about other money she had.
Again, I just found throwing loose money into her pocketbook....kind of scattered?
I also have random 1's and 5's and change. Comes in handy, as I rarely carry cash and it's there if I need it. In a pinch, I can dig up $20 at least from my purse/car console.
I usually carry anywhere from $10 - $1000 on me at any given time. I can't get to the bank to deposit cash too easily, so I keep it on me until I do.
By nature, I have to have the bills sorted by denomination, facing the same direction, and tri-folded. I keep the cash bound by a rubber band along with my driver's license, two commonly used credit cards, and my BC/BS type cards.
Yes, I can tell you how much cash I have in the house (within $5), but I keep it squirreled away in a couple different places for safekeeping.
