Before the crash.

This thread is going on three years old.

And you are correct, a 10% cut since that point is not doing bad.
Yeah, I didn't realize how old a post it was until just now. I was just about to delete my post.

I still find peoples' lack of basic knowledge on subjects like this to be shocking, regardless of whether it was before the crash or not.

Is it illegal to give certain employees a cost of living increase while others do not get one?

You are kidding, I hope. There is no law forcing your employer to give you any raise of any kind.

hi guys I googled "cost of living calculator" and those 2 links came up Cost of Living Calculator: Compare the Cost of Living in Two Cities - CNNMoney Cost of Living comparison calculator I was wondering just how accurate those are. Does anyone have experiences with those links? It would be costly and regretful if those aren't accurate at all after I have moved and settled down depending on those 2 links...thanks guys

I would never base a major lifestyle change - such as moving my family - on a calculator I found on the internet.

No we are not entitled, and the government can not make
them give you a raise past minimum wage or benifits either.

Employers do not have keep you either, and they can fire you
for almost any reason except discrimination.

All of these internet "calculators" are simply widgets that fiddle with BLS data for the CPI-U. You can cut out the uselesss middleman by visiting the BLS website and clicking on areas you are interested in. Detail (text and data) are available for regions and selected cities around the country.
