my concern, and gripe, is:

You do go to the vet pay the heart worm, dr. vist etc,? then if the meds you
do not buy from them it is an added charge from 10 to 14. called record keeping? so if i pay the vet the fee, blood work etc., why do i need a record fee, for the heart meds? this is a way vets add on! when i do go and pay, i get it the cost what is wrong, and am free to use my insuraance, to get for me. anyone else? I do refuse to pay for additional record reports. Like a heart worm test etc., is like why I am here? Now, I always get any work the so called vet does. why, I pay for it. the so called add on fee, first the exam, blood fecal, etc., then to get the meds an add on fee? this is called record keeping?

Vets made money on the meds that helped them keep their clinics open. Now with the internet, they have lost that revenue stream.

If you dont like it, go to another vet. I would say the same thing if your doctor required an upfront yearly payment (like one does in Miami) to stay their patient. Dont like it? Get another doctor.

I never heard of such a thing?? Sounds like a crock to me .

My vet doesn't seem to care one way or the other if I buy from him, but I do. It's just convenient to do so (mine is literally down the street, I buy the dogs food there too).

I also buy medication there. I probably could buy it cheaper online, but I don't think he has put any huge markup on it, and when I need it, they make it so easy to refill, I'm happy to give him the business.

There are plenty of "old style" vets still out there, maybe it's time to look around?

In my Experience, Vets like Doctors(maybe even more so) are concerned with maximizing profits first and taking care of the patient second

I know a vets office visit seems expensive but the vet has to pay for the same thing your family doctor does. You probably think its a lot because you are covered by insurance when you and yours go see the family doctor. Keep in mind it is harder to get into veterinary school in this country than med school and the vet has to know about a lot more animals than the family doctor.
To me vet bills are part of the privilege of owning four dogs.

Yes, however, when a dog age 14 and 3 months did not eat! 2 yrs b4 age kidney failure. then on her test, lets clean her teeth? Why? anyway, 6 months per say, the dog such did pass to sleep in my arms. The vet she is sick, and I do not have any answer? I did pay 300 for blood work, and add 114.00 on for the meds?which I did give back, also the burial fee, with her remains to be for me! Also this vet did know this, and, why, would me or any person,
buy meds, and pay 300.00 for a test without being asked?1 would not, however, this is what did happen. I would have done an in house blood test, and for one day had the dog home, now, I have learned. I also would never have had meds to force feed to a dog, who was almost dead, and the vet said to do this. This dog, also did not belong to me, she was a gift I gave to my mother. However, the estate did wish no part of her, so, I did buy a home, for the Bichon, named Angel. Vet bills, are fine, however, ? My one thought is why, did not the vet, call, and speak to me? Yes, part of the money game, and why was I not asked to consent to the 300.00 fee? also, why does a vet, with all this know how, say come here, and the meds are the cure?
also, why, does not a vet, talk, and explain, yes I have a record, and any vet would know, i had dog real sick, and no vet would have left a cell message, to jump down, and force feed a dog who was way too ill? Also The Dr. never did speak to me, which is wrong.

It sounds like you may have chosen a vet who is a sour apple in a sea of totally awesome vets. Where I live we have seven vet clinics having a total of 11 vets, none of whom would do anything out of professional lines. Sure, there are two I'm not overly fond of just do to personality clash, but they are still great vets. I'm sorry for your bad experience.

This post is difficult to understand, but am I reading it right that this was not your regular vet? That you brought, or had somewhere, the medical records of this dog who had been treated by a previous vet?

If this vet had no history with this dog, that may explain some of it. If a vet is faced with a sick dog that it has never examined before, sure, there is going to be an increased risk level that something will go wrong.

it was the only vet the dog had seen, who had a complete history of the dog.
my only problem, is I should have been asked to consent to such a huge bill.
I also think the vet should have talked to me about what the medicine was
for. Alot of people just can not come up with 300.00 then 100.00 more.
when i got a copy of the lab results, kidney, liver etc were off the wall.
which meant i had a real sick dog. sorry about the other post

This has also been our experience, but only since moving (I'm talking after over 40 years of having dogs in our old city with Angel Vets.) There really are great ones out there who are only there to heal, and his reputation takes care of his finances. He's too busy just diagnosing and healing to have to upsell you anything.
Unfortunately, some are pressured to upsell, thus run expensive tests and push the drugs in replacement of a good old-fashioned (read: thorough and knowledgable) examination.

Find a good, no frills doctor who's been established for a while.
