We got a hermit crab about 5 weeks ago. Two days ago I noticed that it hasn't moved. I read about this moulting so I don't want to throw it away. I also don't have the heart to tell my kids it might be dead. Anyone have info on Hermit Crabs

Yes. They die regularly. That is what they are best at - making kids cry. Try a lovebird

My daughter in law has had her hermit crabs for years. They are not that hard to take care of. She uses this website alot www.hermitcrabaddictionstore.com then go to the forums and read through them. She has had hers for 2 1/2 years now. If you need more help let me know and I will have my daughter in law email you.

We have love birds really would like to get rid of them. One died this week. Hope the crab isn't dead to don't notice a smell which they said you would.

Daughter in law said some crabs are shy and won't come out . Yeah, if it is dead you will smell it! I don't care for them very much, but she is a fanatic about her babies ( they all have names) she has decorated the aqarium for them and talks to them.

WEll I didn't have to get that far. I went to try and pick it up to put it into the water and it moved. ITS ALIVE. Now I was reading about this thing called moulting. It would just be my luck that I get one that decides to moce out of the shell. Love birds can't stop laying eggs .

when my hermit crabs have died they've always fallen or at least were hanging OUT of there shell. If this is the case they are dead.

Glad your hermit crab is ok. I don't know why one would compare them to lovebirds, totally different type of pets.
