Hi there!
I'm a 31 y.o., single, European, female working in the University City and currently living in Center City Philadelphia. I'm renting a studio for almost $1000, but I would like to get more space and privacy for that money (indoors and outdoors, maybe a deck??). I prefer somewhere quiet and green, but I'm terrified of living in a typical suburb, since I've never done it before (lived in a town or a city my entire life).

Can you please offer some suggestions? I would like to find a place near a train station, so that I don't have to drive into the city every day and maybe have a commute within 30 min? Also I don't want to live in a neighborhood with families and kids only, but would prefer a more mixed crowd.

Thanks a lot.

have you considered a neighborhood? why not clark park or pine st area around 46th (Garden Court)?
other than that, I'd suggest looking at Wayne, Ardmore, Jenkintown

I'm not sure what is available for renting in that price range but I would look between Merion Station and Wayne on the R5. Most of that area isn't going to provide you with the green you want but its a little bit of a rare mix to be renting, close to a train station, and having outdoor living space.

You may do better in the northern burbs. Look at Glenside, Oreland, Fort Washington, Ambler, Willow Grove etc. In all parts of these neighborhoods you will find train stations. Whether you can locate a rental opportunity in your range with outdoor space will be another question. Someone living in that area can probably shed more light on specifics.
