I recently got a job in North Philly and would like to move from NJ in the near future. I am looking to rent a loft, studio, or 1 bedroom apartment. Looking to pay around $1000...Can I get this with Utilities included? I have a 2 year old 50 lb. full grown dog so pet friendly is a must. I am single and I would like to live somewhere where I am able to easily mingle with late 20's and 30's men (Manaynk has been suggested for this)...Safe area is a HUGE must!

Thanks so much for your advice in advance!!

**Forgot to say I would rather live in the city area rather than suburbs! thanks!

I pay under $1000 with free heat, and minimal other utilities. I was just lurking this forum, but joined just to let you know my place in Society Hill is available August 1st and I'm looking for somebody to take it over. PM me if you are interested. I'm pretty sure a dog would be allowed as I know it is allowed in the other apts in the building.

There are lots of apt complexes that may be pet-friendly but you'll have to do your due diligence. Have you checked out apartmentguide.com or apartments.com? You can filter for pet-friendly places there.

The last poster notwithstanding, finding an apt $1000 including utils would be generally tough in Center City. It may be a bit cheaper to rent in one of the many converted rowhomes but I have no idea about pet policies.

I'd recommend areas like Northern Liberties and Passyunk Square with a slight reservation since safety is important to you. I wouldn't say these areas are dangerous but they have turned the gentrification corner over the last few years and have become quite trendy. As a guy used to urban environments, I would feel comfortable. I don't know if I can speak for ladies.

Thanks so much for your replies so far....I can definitely hold my own since I am def street smart....Just not looking for a place like North Philly, around Temple, to start my life haha No offense! I have def been told Northern Liberties, South Philly, Manaynk....Looking for somewhere that I am able to walk on the streets, nice restaurants and bars, with a younger crowd, (not necessarily college kids)! I def want to be in the middle of it all, or pretty close to it…however, I know that it can def get pricier.

Based on that I would suggest No Libs over manyunk - Manyunk to me still feels like a college town

If you're actually working at Temple - or its hospital up the street - then South Philly might be more convenient in the sense that you could hop on the Broad Street Subway. NoLibs would be slightly more complicated unless you prefer driving to work.

Will you be working at Temple? Just asking b/c you might want to consider your daily commute. Keep in mind that parking where you live probably won't be easy and employers here aren't required to provide parking so they normally don't.

Fishtown/NoLibs would obviously be an easy bicycle or bus commute. Fairmount would be about the same. Passyunk Square and other South Philly places close to the Broad St. Subway would also make life easier.

I am interested in moving to Philly! Can I see pics of your place in Society Hill? How much a month do you pay?

Im working a few blocks from Temple, closer to center city...not too worried about the commute since Im communting from jersey right now....more worried about the location where I am moving...If Im paying rent, I want it to be worth it! Like I said before, I want to be close, if not in, the mix of everything.
