I want to second this post. Center City may fall behind Georgetown or Beacon Hill, but it is one of the very few places in the country which ranks among those.

These are all great suggestions. I've been googling and reading about them all but I know that I will need to actually check them out myself in person to get a good feeling if I will like living in these locations. I'm planning on seeing each of these places in person soon, so I will post my opinions for anybody who is interested. And if there are any more places you think I should look at please don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks again!

Thumbs down Re-think the whole moving to "Philly" thing

Philly is not all it's cracked up to be, visit philly for a couple weeks and you will see turn on the news channel there all you hear about it rapes, murders, kid napping, suicides etc. And If your ever planning on having kids then that will be like putting them in complete touture it's horrible growing up here. You will definately have to live in the suburbs such as hatburrow, horsham, willow grove, huntingtod valley. If you want a lively city that is safe and you don't want to risk your life everytime you walk outside i would suggest you rethink this and look into somewhere else this is on one of the dangerous us cities ever

Good thing you warned him - since they don't have crime in Boston, DC, and Chicago, he might not have known what he was getting himself into.

Can you provide a link that supports your claim? Also I like your phonetic spelling of "Hatburrow".

So, I finally got around to posting about my trip to Philadelphia. I checked out pretty much every location that was recommended on this thread! The only one I was unable to make it to was West Chester .

We stayed for two nights in Chestnut Hill (which was actually a really cool area) but I would say that our favorite locations within the city were Rittenhouse Square and Society Hill. When we took a look at the recommended suburbs my wife practically fell in love with the houses in Swarthmore and I have to admit that I really liked the area as well. Media has a great little downtown strip which we liked as well....

While I really liked University City I couldn't sell my wife on it. Her take is that we've already lived in neighborhoods almost exactly like that and she feels like we've got it out of our system.

We also checked out a few neighborhoods in some other cities that we really liked as well so moving to Philadelphia is not a sure bet at this point. (It really comes down to where we get the best jobs)

Thanks again for all of the suggestions! It was really fun going around to each of the neighborhoods that you guys told me about! Philadelphia is a very cool city...

Thanks for your update...let us know what you finally decide to do. Glad you thought Philadelphia was a cool city. A lot of us think so too.
