I wonder if city leaders and supporters will try to pitch our 250th birthday as a selling point for hosting. (if we make it that long).

Developer Goldenberg eyeing S. Broad St. health building to solidify control of block

All past history of this developer aside, I don't think this building should be deemed historical, it would pretty much end all hopes for large scale much more appropriate development on this site, leaving a big gap on South Broad, not to mention the building is nothing special. It would be great if the developer could find a way to keep some of the facade of the original structure in new a new project, but I sure hope people don't come with pitchforks if the developer opts for demolition.

I've only seen one article about any plans about a 250th US celebration. But, locally, the political landscape will probably be different by 2026. Immediate case in point: Bob Brady will have at least two primary challengers next year. If he loses things could change radically for Democrats in Philly.

I walk past this building frequently. Anyone who thinks this should be deemed historical is playing a game. This building is an exceptional dump complimented by a parking lot. It really is the antithesis of health.

Can we please not pretend this building is historical lol? At some point you gotta move on.
Also there's a movement called USA250 which seeks to bring a national focus to the country's 250th anniversary in 2026, with proceedings centered in Philadelphia. It has some pretty significant people involved. Hopefully that picks up steam moving forward. USA250 | By the people, for the people. Planning for 2026.

Good Looking Apartment Building Planned Next to Vine Street Expressway | Naked Philly

This is a small project, but A+ design IMO, and a great use for a skinny lot.

Honest to God the only thing I can remember about it is when they gave out box fans from there to elders during a seriously bad heatwave years ago. I refuse to go to senior centers in any case.

I like that mural but I'm okay with losing it for this.

I wouldn't go there to pick-up a box fan. It's dirty, in rundown condition, and filled with slow-moving government employees.
