You'll get some good answers here about the area around Villanova, but another forum that you might like is College Admissions, Search, and Financial Aid Help from College Confidential They have small forums for many colleges, reviews, etc. This link is for the 'Nova forum: Villanova University - College Discussion

I live down the street from 'nova. Its a very suburban, almost rural feel. Lots of big houses, money. Not much in nightlife, there are few stores in the immediate environ but if you have a car, you can drive to the strip malls or King Of Prussia Shopping Mall, which is about 5 miles away. There is a Septa train stop in the middle of campus so you an take it one way into Philly for about 10 bucks. Its less than a 30 minute train trip into downtown Philly (known as Center City). Nova is considered to be on the Mainline, which is the suburban area defined by that Septa train (the R5). Good Luck!

I wouldn't call it rural, considering it's almost entirely built-out, and there's tons of traffic along Route 30, 320, Montgomery Avenue, etc.

I live in the area and I see many cars that are from New York that are students at Nova. The area is beautiful and very safe. You can walk around at night even by yourself , which is not smart but never a fear of being hurt. Surrounded by beautiful homes on the mainline which is an affluent suburbs of Philly. Not a lot of nightlife but
you can take the train in Philly or drive to West Chester which has a large state univer.
It is only about 15 minutes away down west chester pike. There are also many other colleges in the area, Rosemont College, Cabrini, Immaculato, there are also schools only
a train ride away about 30 to 50 minutes to drive to temple univ, Drexel, Penn,
Good Luck.

Villanova is a smaller school, and not a huge party school. I personally went to Penn State and needed a large school to fulfill both my social and academic needs. Greek life is not extremely popular-or necessary. People often have house parties/apartment parties/dorm parties or go to bars. A lot of people who go to nova are friends with people from Penn/Temple/Drexel and sometimes greeks have socials together (can you tell I was in a sorority??) Obviously basketball is a big deal and it offers a great source for school spirit. The area itself is rather preppy. Also, nova is extremely similar to BC- just without the city, if thats any help.

Anyway, if you want a smaller school then you might like Nova...

Villanova is a great school if you can afford it and if you want a smaller school. It's a beautiful campus, if you're concerned with that. If you want the typical "college experience" full of parties, don't go there. The frat scene is pretty much dead and the affluent residents and police of the surrounding area don't really want to see you have too much fun. The girls are hot there (can be a little snobby though). There's also a big population of people from NY/Long Island/North Jersey. If you go, say hi to my mother, she works in the freshman dining hall :P
