Considering a tornado has spun through a couple of subdivisions in Delaware, and there are more tornado warnings up as I type, it's good that the news is on nonstop.

Up until the last minute, Hurricane Marilyn in 1995 was forecast to go south of St Croix with St Thomas expected to receive nasty weather from its outer bands. When the grid was turned off, we had our battery-operated radios at the ready and as time crept by it was obvious that something was very wrong. The stalwart few who remained at the radio station to keep us informed said that although the information they were receiving still said the hurricane was passing to the south of us, they seemed to be losing their transmission capabilities as the winds were ripping up their equipment.

The roof of the house started visibly moving up and down and I couldn't even open my bedroom door in the back of the house. The radio announcer finally said that he didn't know how long they would be able to continue transmitting but would hold on as long as they could. Shortly thereafter all transmission ceased and we were left literally in the dark with no comforting words coming over the air.

I won't bore you with the details of that awful night. We took refuge in the studio apartment down below when rain started pouring in on us but, when the storm finally passed as daybreak came, we came out to find utter devastation surrounding us. We had taken a direct hit with the eye sitting over us and stalling for several hours.

Feel blessed that you have all that irritating coverage and, if you're told to move out then move out. There's nowhere for us to go on a small island and we just have to hunker down and deal with it. That was a night I'll never forget and I still get chills when I talk about it to others.

All the best to you all and hopefully the storm will soon pass over you and your recovery will be swift.

If it makes you feel any "better", all of the major network stations here in DC have had non-stop weather coverage since early this morning.

Especially since most people here (even the weather forecasters) have little experience with tornadoes.

I take back everything I said earlier, Now I'm actually a little nervous and it sounds bad outside. I thought the news was just trying to get ratings earlier today and overhyping

You're forgiven. Hope you weather it OK and don't have any damage where you're staying! I went thru Hurricane Frederick in '79 and we didn't have all the coverage. It was one very long, dark night. Our neighbor across the street had a generator and we watched the light in his window all night. We figured as long as we could see the light, things were good. Fast forward to 2004 and the 4 hurricanes that hit us in Florida. Things weren't nearly so scary, being able to listen to the 'constant' news coverage.

Since this is the direction you want to go on your job search, I would think you would be all ears as to how news/TV people operate. Hope you did not have too much damage.

Took the batteries back today so I could get a refund which is something I shouldn't have purchased in the first place.

And if you hadn't bought them and ended up with hours or even days without power you would have had that to kvetch about. More invests are being watched which are on the same track so let's not be complacent ...
