Thanks to everyone who answered my prior question about looking for an area for my daughter to live. She did get an apartment on 13th and Lombard, and now, the next big issue!!!! I would like to know if anyone knows of a garage in the area that is not outrageously priced or if there may be anyone who might be renting out a space in that area.

One lot we looked at is $280 a month. She expects to pay about $200 but $280 is just insane.

There is permit parking, but as of now, we do not have PA plates. MUST you have PA plates to get the permit, or could you just show your lease with the PA address? Would that be enough. Seems there is decent street parking where her apartment is, but you need the permit.

Thanks for any replies!!

Look on CL too people rent spaces.

280 is normal moving to the North from Lombard, heading south or even west it should be a little cheaper

There is a lot between 15th and 16th Latimer (24hours) for 180

There is a lot on Rodman (which is a little street between South & Lombard) between 10th & 11th that offers monthly parking. It used to be (and maybe still is) parking for Superfresh on the upper floors and card accessed monthly parking at the bottom. I recall it was reasonably priced for the area (and definitely less expensive than the lot on 11th near Clinton St).

You're right that the area around 13th & Lombard isn't too bad for on-street parking either.

Try the app Best Parking. Otherwise I remember there being 2 cheaper lots around 15th and South. That's not a bad walk.

Default Lombard and 13th Street Parking

My daughter will not be getting a parking permit as she does not have PA plates right now and we have not yet found a parking garage to fit in the budget. Is it really crazy to expect that she can find any street parking around 13th and Lombard? Does street parking even exist? I know she can park at a meter but then she has to feed that meter 24/7.

Thanks.

^^^ Assuming your daughter is adult, shouldn't she be able to figure this out on her own? I don't mean to appear judgmental or perhaps insensitive, but am just asking because of all the moves i made without my mother's assistance - that's all.

Seconded. Also, she has a job in the suburbs, yet insists on living one block away from a subway station in one of the most walkable cities in America, owning a car, and not expecting to pay an arm and a leg for it? I sympathize in part with her - because I think employers insisting on locating in the suburbs while employees want to live in cities (or place built to the human scale in general) are way behind the times, and since I've moved here I've struggled with trying to find a *good* job that's actually in the city....these are decisions you have to make though. I don't have a car, live in the city, and work somewhere that I don't really get to use my full potential. Long term, hopefully a lot of employers get why it's important to locate in a city or other real place and these problems will be solved. Maybe it'll happen soon - I've been offered several interviews at places that advertised as being in Philly, only to later learn they were out in KOP, and I flat out told them I had no interested in working there.

Personally, I think I just would have lived in a place like Media or one of the more active towns in the area, and made the car lifestyle easier, if it's that big of a deal.

Or, just pay the 300 dollars a month for a garage. It's what it costs. She'll be living in one of the finest neighborhoods in America, within walking or transit distance of anything she'll need, except the job, unfortunately.

Yes, it IS really crazy to expect long term street parking around 13th and Lombard.

Philadelphia is a big major US city ... the 5th largest in the US. 13th and Lombard is in Center City within 6 or 7 blocks of City Hall, the Kimmel Center, the Academy of Music, the University of the Arts, Curtis, William Way Center, the Sketch Club, the Pine Street Antiques Row, dozens of hotels like the Doubletree and the Bellevue, and scores of restaurants, etc.

What do you expect?

Do you think you can find a lot of street parking near Herald Square in Manhattan, Dupont Circle in Washington, Mount Vernon Place in Baltimore, the Common in Boston, or within The Loop in Chicago?
