If you come through Philly, what individual neighborhoods should you avoid? And I mean individual dangerous neighborhoods, not city regions.

Actually if you are driving a car there isn't any neighborhood you can't pass through, particularly during the day. At night, there is an area called North Philadelphia directly north of the downtown area that should probably be avoided, particularly west of Broad St, particularly if you are white. The police might pull you over and assume you are looking for drugs. Actually if you are black they will still pull you over. However Broad St which runs through the heart of this neighborhood is safe 24 hours a day. Also parts of west Philadelphia can be intimidating, more so in the summer when groups of youths gather on street corners to socialize. Chances are you won't wander into either neighborhood. You will have to search for them.

Hunting Park
Tioga/Nicetown
West Kensington
Hartranft
Sharswood
North Central
Strawberry Mansion
Ludlow
Juniata/Feltonville
Allegheny West

These tend to be the worst neighborhoods. You're fine in North Philadelphia South of Girard Ave, they are all nice or gentrifying neighborhoods. Once you past north of Girard, things tend to be block by block. Also, North of Route 1 (the portion that runs through North Philadelphia, the neighborhoods tend to get better again.

This is way to broad and a generalization. Not all of Kensington or Germantown are bad. Not all of North Philadelphia is bad. Not all of Southwest Philadelphia is bad.

The section east of Frankford Ave is in great shape. Kensington and Olde Kensington are getrifying. It tends to be West Kensington and Harrowgate that are the bad areas.

Problem is a visitor would never know where these neighborhoods are and if he is in them. They are not listed on any maps that I am aware of. Actually, it would be a nice feature.

The only section I can see a visitor in is North Philadelphia because of Temple Sports

Whether or not they're all "bad" I can't imagine a legitimate reason to visit for someone not specifically there to see a friend or family member.
