Hi there! My husband and I are relocating to Philadelphia in July for him to attend graduate school at Temple. We are trying to find a place to live in a decent area. Having both lived in the urban environs of Los Angeles, we are definitely used to diversity, and would prefer to be in a neighborhood that has some diversity to it. We have a large dog so we would need a small yard, which means we might have to look outside of the City area. Any place that is within SEPTA/train stations would be ideal.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Jenkintown Abington or Oak Lane. They are all just to the north of Temple. It would be an easy commute because buses and trains both run up Broad/York. Jenkintown and Abington are outside the city.

I'm relocating from Santa Barbara at the same time, also for graduate school at Temple. Want to split a truck?

Chestnut Hill- West Mount Airy- East Falls are all in the NW section of Philadlephia County but are more suburban in nature.

Narberth,Ardmore,Bryn Mawr,Wynnewood,Haverford are all nice close-in suburbs not too far from Temple.

Temple is on the Broad St Subway (columbia/Cecil B Moore Stop) and certain regional rail lines.
If you lived in the northwest, it would be useful to live near Chestnut Hill East lines which stop at Temple BEFORE going into center city. Jenkintown trains also have stops at Temple. there are buses that run up and down old york that connect to the subway. another city neighborhood that might fit your needs is East Oak Lane, some beautiful Victorian houses on the cheap with yards. some parts are walking distance to Melrose Park station.
