The turkey got hit by a car a few nights ago. He was the last one of a nine member family group that started off here about three years ago. Originally there was a female turkey, the tom we have been watching, and seven chicks- three of which survived the cats, cars and raccoons.

Just musing here: I've lived in Philly 5+ years and am always impressed by the range of issues that Philly proper (to a lesser degree, the 'burbs) has to deal with: the usual urban stuff like gang violence, drag racing on Roosevelt Blvd, a school system in disarray, and then things like deer culling in Wissahickon Creek and building a fish ladder on the Schuykill.

I just saw one yesterday on Marshall Road between Owen and Lansdowne. Still eating grass...man, they're resilient. You'd think they'd stay in the park or near a body of water....

Lansdowne Turkey
I saw the turkey this morning on the lawn at the Lansdowne YMCA. I initially thought it was fake until it started moving. I would not want to walk down a street next to a wild turkey. Where did it come from anyway?

So while walking my dog this morning, I literally saw the giant turkey on the snowy/icy roof of my neighbor across the street (305 Owen Ave, Lansdowne) and as I was trying to figure out how on earth a giant turkey ended up on the roof, I saw it jump from the roof, open its wings and fall to the ground unharmed.
