I don't know how Comcast continues to get around antitrust laws but who even cares anymore?

^^^ Actually, the article states it still needs regulatory approval.

Not necessarily on this thread... but a lot of people seem to be confused by the fact that Time Warner Cable, who Comcast is merging with, is a totally separate company from Time Warner (CNN, HBO, New Line, WB, etc..)

For real. It's weird that I'm being put into a position of having to pull for Verizon to make some headway in my neighborhood. haha

And how will our rates increase now? How in the hell does this company have so much damn money to buy a failing TV network and now (likely) the second largest cable provider in the nation? I don't get it.

As far as I know, Time-Warner has no franchises here in Connecticut. They do operate the largest single franchise in Maine, however, including Portland and their surrounding towns.

Haha, I have Verizon internet and used to have FIOS cable but Netflix/internet and OTA broadcast are enough for me now. I don't think cable tv has much of a future until they let customers pick and pay for specific channels.

Yeah, I would 100% dump TWC if i wasn't my best option for internet as well.

There's some interesting points made in this article about the accelerating decline of Cable TV, the consolidating of internet provider infrastructure via this merger, and the threat it represents to net neutrality.

Why the Comcast-Time Warner Cable Merger Is Even Worse Than You Think

i don't see how this would make rates go up . . . Comcast and TWC are not competitors - they each have their own territory. Competitive pricing pressure is created by Verizon Fios, Directv, and on-line providers. Not be cable companies that serve other markets.
