Me and my girlfriend are moving to the US. She will go to the university of pennsylvania and I will attend to Princeton.

I would like to know about nice neighborhoods where we could both live in. I can drive to Princeton if necessary, but she does not drive, so she will have to use public transportation.

I was looking for some area safe and with some restaurants, pubs, etc. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Caio

I have noticed that the drive is almost the same from fishtown and the city center, so yes, living in the city close to I-95 is an option (or maybe even close to Walnut St near the campus). But the drive to Princeton is a bit long, so I was wondering if we could not find something closer to Princeton.

Bristol has a very pretty downtown with beautiful old houses and a nice waterfront. it has train access to Philly and the Drive to Princeton should not be too bad.

I second the above. Bristol would be a great choice, although there will not be the same excitement as living in Philadelphia. But if I recall, UPenn and Princeton are about 1.5 hr apart, so living half way makes the most sense.

Google says it is a 55 min drive. Bristol seems like an option. Is it a safe neighborhood? I mean, is that ok to walk at night near the train station or other areas?

Someone else will need to answer that as I don't live in the area anymore.

The area near the train station is safe blue collar area. Apartments near the waterfront will be nicer but still affordable. There is a wonderful walking/biking trail that goes around the town. Parking at the train station is free 24/7 and the lot is large enough to never fill up. Best parking on the Northeast Corridor. You could probably rent a row home for a good deal. Train to University city, and an easy drive up 95 to princeton.

You will have to move out to the NJ or Bucks county suburbs if you want to cut your commute. The trip from Princeton to Cherry Hill, for instance, will be about 50 minutes. The trip from Cherry Hill to UPENN will be about 30 minutes. If you commute from Fishtown or any locale in Philly, then you will be commuting about 1.15 hours. Commuting from say Bensalem to PENN will take you 35 minutes (depending upon time of day) and about the same to get to Princeton.

There's no good location in between

If you can commit to going in to work on a fixed (early) schedule, then I would recommend commuting by train rather than driving -- this way you can get work done on the train, and it will be much less painful. You could live either in Princeton or right by UPenn -- both are near train stations.
