How do the Philly natives feel about the transplants? Is it the same as some NYers feel about their hipsters and yuppies? I know this city is gentrifying too but at a slower pace. I imagine that a lot of the transplants are actually from other parts of Pennsylvania. From my time at Penn State, I have come to learn that there is a bit of rivalry between Philly and the rest of the state. And I get the impression that the rural areas and smaller cities tend to side with Pittsburgh against Philly.

I don't think that most people care, or even notice. In Center City and a lot of the suburbs, MOST people are probably transplants. Maybe there are some working class neighborhoods where people would care.

Yep... ^^ Sort of what he said. My take is, " they're alright, they just need to learn the rules."

They need to learn the lingo, and quickly realize that there is no "best" cheesesteak because they're all the same.

In my experience, most 'transplants' I come across in Philly are still from the general region, as opposed to in NYC where they are just as, or more likely to be from somewhere really far away (Iowa! Oklahoma! Rome!) as from anywhere nearby. This perhaps helps most everyone to easily get behind the local sports teams
So I would say that it's NOT really the same dynamic. I've never really heard that word used very much in Philly.

Right now the only complaint I can think of is how some think Philadelphia is Center City....only. It's a city of neighborhoods. There's a whole lot more to the city than just downtown.

You hit the nail on the head here. Although I'm a transplant myself, but have lived in other big cities with the same kind of dynamic.
