West Chester; it has the most going for it. Phoenixville is up-and-coming, however.

I was searching for Pottstown in the Philadelphia Forum, not much came up. Looked at the Pennsylvania Forum though, and a ton of information came up. Looks like it's a very undesirable city though. Landfills, and just a lot of dilapidation.

Pottstown has not come back yet. West Chester was the first place to come back andis the liveliest of the three (maybe you could argue conshohocken was the first). Phoenixville has gotten a lot livelier over the years and is a nice place to live. Pottstown seems a little too far removed and has no rail access. It appears that the next town to make a comeback will be Lansdale. Have you been to ambler?

I haven't been to any of them. But, hope to this December. I visited Philadelphia last year, and absolutely loved the city and the area.

West chester (no rail)
Phoenxiville (no rail)
Wayne (rail)
Ambler (rail)
Chestnut Hill (rail)...technically in the city but it is a suburb
Conshohocken (rail)
Ardmore (rail)..not terribly lively but getting better
Lansdale (rail) getting better
further afield
Lancaster city (rail)

I grew up in West Chester. I voted it because even in its illy conceived and over-development rebirth, there is more stuff to do, is more walkable, and the 104 goes right to 69th St. Phoenixville is better than it was in the 70's and 80's, but it is still a dull suburb, not that thats bad. Pottstown is too provincial and just plain depressing to me. Only my opinion though, if you are coming here to look anyway, check it out, too.
If I had to come back to live(there is that possibility) I would concentrate my search in the areas around Bryn Mawr. You might want to look there too, if you come to PA.
