Someone considered it University City and I was trying to explain it's not University City since it's on the other side of Lancaster Ave. I always thought the area was considered Powelton Area or Drexel area but definitely not University City.

This debate came from someone saying that there is a Chik-Fila in University City now and I was like where because I would have seen it and they said 34th and Race. And that's when I told them it;s not University City.

Anyone Agree?

34th and Race is absolutely University City. The northern border of University City is Powelton Avenue. North of that, it becomes Powelton Village until Spring Garden St.

Since when?

I thought University City started from Market Street to Baltimore and 31st to 51st Street?

According to the maps in the University City District's annual report it is even larger, extending up through Powelton Village to Spring Garden (see pages 8 and 36):

http://universitycity.org/sites/defa...C-2014-web.pdf

Google shows different outlines on their map, but TBO their source of neighborhood info can really use some updating because it is quite wonky at times. From what I gather, according to the broadest definitions, the mega-neighborhood of University City is still kind of a catch-all and includes other smaller neighborhoods like Powelton Village, Spruce Hill, Walnut Hill, and Cedar Park.

University City is Powelton Avenue to the North, Schuylkill River to the East and South, and 40th Street to the West.

Powelton Village is Powelton Avenue to the South, Spring Garden Street to the North, train tracks to the East and Lancaster Avenue to the west.

In between 40th and 50th, Market to the North and the Septa tracks to the South are a bunch of neighborhoods including Spruce Hill, Cedar Park, Walnut Hill, Woodland Terrace, Southwest Cedar Park, Squirrel Hill, Garden Court and Clark Park.

Yeah I found all this out and learned something new tonight because I always considered 34th and Race the Drexel University section of West Philly.

Probably since someone(who knows who?) decided it made sense to include Powelton Village as part of Unversity City when that was NOT the case not too long ago.

LOL. But that's still kinda true is it not? The biggest influence and dominate thing there is Drexel. More than ever.
