Inquiring minds want to know!
They just remodeled, and moved in the last decade from another spot on the block, now Golden Beauty.

There were also some gay bars on the DL in the outlying neighborhoods. A place called BJP's in the 5300 block of Market Street and Chuck's Recovery Room on Germantown Avenue near Erie come to mind.

Clark Park: I've long been of the opinion that Philadelphia's gay community institutions (its newspaper and its Democratic political club aside) are underpowered for a city this large.
Yes, it's Karen. I retired from Penn 3 years go.

Agreed. The local gay institutions are underpowered. But, I chalk that up to the obvious: NYC is so close to us.

I do remember BJP's. I think there's a day care center in that building now.

How about Northern Liberties, Fishtown, or "Olde Kensington"? Are there any places in these hipster-ish neighborhoods where gay folks tend to gravitate?

I chalk it up to another fact: Relative to NYC, Boston and San Francisco, a smaller proportion of Philadelphians grew up somewhere outside the region.

Often, folks "run away from home" so they can be the people they believe they can't be around their families.

The North Shore Beach Club across from the Piazza has a "Drink and Swim" event every monday night from May-Sep. Its a gay event. Draws a big crowd. They also have a few gay pool parties in the summer.

And Medusa Lounge at 22nd and Chestnut has gay parties once a month.

The Beach Club is fun to attend, a nice break from the gayborhood, which gets suffocating at times.

I belong to the North Shore Beach Club. Was a member back when it was called by a different name. Apollo I think. I am not gay but believe many of its members are. Some of the pool parties are hosted by the girls group Philly Stimulus.

Not gay. The dudes who go there just appear to be gay.

I did a little research and spoke to the manager of the Mill Creek Tavern on Chester Ave. and 42nd Street. He says there is a Lesbian monthly party there every first Friday night. He wasn't sure about the LGBT party on the 2nd Saturdays because he is the day manager. He was very friendly and said he wants to assist any gay person who wants to use that tavern for a party or an event.
