I'm new to Philly and living in the city ave area temporarily and have to move in April. I'm a female in late 20's and work downtown, city ave has been great but i'm having a tough time finding a good apartment around here, too many negative reviews online and I thought I'd experience a downtown living perhaps.

I came across a few lofts along Broad st after the Spring Garden station, and wanted to inquire on how safe the area is. Any feedback is appreciated.

I'm a female. Been living in that area for nearly 20 years. It's only gotten better over time especially immediately west of Broad St.

I use the BSL Spring Garden station almost every day. It's safe. The only caveat I have is that there are a lot schools in the area including CCP. There is swarm of kids at the station between 2:30-4pm. Nothing bad happens(Septa cops patrol it), but the platforms are packed. If you can avoid the station at that time, I would advice you to do it.

It's a good area that's very busy but as long as you use good judgment and don't travel alone at night after 12am you should be fine.

Will you stop with your infernal fear-mongering? lol

I live there. I'm the one who's qualified to talk intelligently about it.

But don't you see? 12am is when the gremlins come out. *nods*

(OP, it's very safe).

The area is in fact getting better, but I wouldn't say it's "very safe." Be aware of your surroundings, there are still plenty of junkies and criminals roaming the area.

So what is wrong with telling a woman not to travel alone after midnight in that area?
