Hello all. I'm relocating from the West Coast. I will have an elementary aged student in 2 years and we plan to be in the place we buy a house for at least 5+ years. Which area tends to have better schools overall (especially elementary and middle) - Yardley, Langhorne (between core creek park and 95), or Holland?

Thank you in advance!

I actually would suggest Newtown or Lower Makefield, which are very close to the areas you mentioned.

Isn't lower Makefield Yardley? From what I see Newtown is the same school district as Holland also?

Yardley is a borough; Lower Makefield is a larger, adjacent township, but both send their kids to the same district (Pennsbury). I thought that was not the case. And yes, Holland, as part of Northampton Twp, does send its kids to the same schools (Council Rock) as Newtown.

Yes, big school district. Actually has two high schools I believe.

So would you say that council rock and pennsbury are better than Langhorne?

Yes Newtown (Newtown, Northampton (Holland along with Richboro, Churchville and Ivyland are all part of Northampton Twnshp), Wrightstown, and Upper Makefield townships) is part of Council rock - I think CR is rated a little ahead of Pennsbury where Yardley is

Best of luck in your search

in general, I think higher incomes and better schools

CR > Pennsbury > Neshaminy though are are pretty good - though I haven't lived in Bucks in sometime and to be fair did go to CR so maybe am biased

Central Bucks schools are also good if you looked a litle more to central Bucks county - a ot depends on what you want - it gets a little more pastoral into Central bucks

This. CR is definitely ahead of the other two, though I would say that Pennsbury would be second. Central Bucks is another great option and one that has IMO surpassed CR as the better school district. However, that takes you kind of far from the area you're looking at.

The one thing I will say about CR is that if you do choose it, see if you can buy a house in either Newtown, Wrightstown or Upper Makefield townships. They are typically more expensive than Northampton (though not always) but they feed into CR North High School as opposed to CR South. I haven't lived or worked there in a few years but when I did, CR North was trending better than CR South. Granted their both good schools and better high schools than most other districts in the Phila area. But North seems to be the better quality school. However, there's no guarantee that it's the right fit socially/economically/ethnically, etc. But IMO it's a better school.

Good luck in your search!

Thank you all so much for your responses! My husband will be commuting all the way to Lakehurst, NJ for the Navy but we need to live near an ill family family member in PA. Your responses helped solidify what I was thinking!
