As most of you know, I am a local to the Philly area; however, one thing that I have yet to do is spend an entire night out on the town. The latest I have ever stayed in Center City was up until the last train to Elwyn came, which was between 11:30 PM-12:00 AM. Since 24 hr subway service is now available on the El and BSL on weekends, I decided that I should spend an entire night hanging out in parts of the City and possibly Manayunk. I have a few questions:

1.) Are there any good 18+ clubs in Center City? I'm 19 and I'm in LOVE with the club scene. I have been clubbing in Paris and Allentown, but I have never gone clubbing in Philly before. I, by far, had the best time clubbing in Paris. The clubs with international students were the best. I know that my clubbing experience in Philly will be totally different from Paris since I can't legally get wasted in the States!

2.) What is Center City like past 12:00 AM? I imagine that West Market is pretty dead, but what about University City? Old City/Society Hill? NoLibs/Fishtown?

3.) Is there a 24 hr transit option that will get me from Center City to Manayunk?

4.) Is there anything, besides clubbing, that a 19 year old can do in terms of nightlife? I suppose I could go to Spruce Street Harbor Park, which I have yet to visit.

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

I can't answer much to the club scene, but I do know that Philly doesn't have a ton of true dance clubs. But no, there are no 24 hour options between CC and Manayunk. The last train that goes from CC to Manayunk leaves CC around 1:45am on a Sat. After that, it's either Uber or a cab. Uber is way cheaper, about $15-$20 if they aren't price surging. If you come to Manayunk to go clubbing, your best bets are Manayunk Brewery, Kildare's, and Mad River. They all have DJs after hours but I'm warning you now, they will all be filled with bros.

Thanks so much for the info!

From my Google search, it does seem like the clubs that CC does have don't rate well. I looked into the ratings of Club Blurr, but it seemed like a crappy place once I read the reviews. There is a club on Samson Street that I may check out.

What a shame that there is no 24 hour option between CC and Manayunk. If I do come that way, looks like I will use Uber. And thanks for the warning about the clubs in Manayunk! That's not the type of crowd appealing to me.

Honestly you'd probably have better clubbing options in AC or down the shore than you would ever find in Philly. I forgot to mention, I'm not sure if the Manayunk places I mentioned are 18+ or 21+ so you might want to call and ask before you head up here. And places close at 2am, not sure how late you were planning on staying out.

Regardless, hope you have fun!

Speaking from experience(you know how old I am ! lol), I, personally, don't think the club scene really recovered from the AIDs crisis and people getting older and not quite having the energy for bars/clubs anymore.

For example, at one time there were 4 lesbian bars/clubs. There was also one in Fishtown which didn't last long. That all dwindled down to 1 bar(Sisters). Now there are none.

So much energy shifted to restaurants from the 90s to today. The changes on 13th St are a sampling of what I mean. Gay partners, Marcie Turney and Valerie Safron, who pretty much run/own most of what is cool from Chestnut to Locust, might have been club entrepreneurs years ago. Instead they are overseeing a food-oriented empire.

OH! Woody's in the Gayborhood - the upstairs is a club. Not sure if it's 18 or 21+ though.

My one and only club experience was Nocturne Wednesday at Shampoo when I was like 16. Got taken by friends. It was a goth themed thing. They had separate floors for 21+ and minors. Personally I don't really see the appeal of clubbing, but other people were having fun it seemed.

Edit: appearently that club is now closed
