How safe is Filbert street in Philadelphia? Particularly by the greyhound station?

The address is 1001 Filbert St.
What is the area like around 1AM?
I will only be walking from the parking garage to the bus station. Anything to worry about?

I hear a lot of crazy stories on the news about Philly.. just slightly worried, any info would help, thanks

Is filbert st considered center city?

You're in a safe area of center city. I don't know about a bus station that late at night. Obviously, you could find more seedly people hanging around there at that time. There are plenty of homeless hanging around CC but I've never known anyone to have an issue with them. Just ignore them and 99% of the time no issue. I don't know if you are safe anywhere at 1am anymore.

Filbert Street is in the heart of Center City. It's sort of a "side" street tucked between Market St. to the south and Arch St. to the north. During the day, it's fine as commuters and visitors to the Convention Center and Chinatown pass through. If you're using the parking garage on the unit block of N. 11th Street, you'll come out onto the street beneath a walkway structure used to connect Marriott guests to the Convention Center. As it's quiet and underlit, it can seem a bit intimidating at first. On the other side of the street there is a Wawa convenience store as well as an Asian bus service. You'll need to walk to that side of the street and make a left onto Filbert. You may encounter a few transients during your five-minute walk. They will most likely keep to themselves although it's not uncommon for them to ask for change.

You're more likely to encounter crime issues in other parts of Philly, but at 1:00 in the morning, it's wise to be cautious no matter what city you are in.

If you are a female, don't chance it. The homless and hustlers in and out of the station will harass you and god knows who's lurking around the garages/streets at that hour...you'd be better off cabbing it or taking SEPTA...

I have the same question....different area.

I'll need to walk from Presbyterian Hospital to The Inn at Penn on Sansom Street.

Are there any other hotels that would be better/closer? A family member is having surgery at the hospital. I'm a rural sort of gal, and I'm not very familiar with downtown Philadelphia.

Thanks in advance.

You're technically in University City which is across from downtown but the colleges (Penn and Drexel among others) keep things fairly busy.

The Sheraton University City is closer (36th and Chestnut) but not by much. I'm sure that the Inn at Penn is nicer.

If you're traveling during the day, you'll be fine. For a rural person not familiar with Philly, it might not hurt to catch a cab. It will be a short five-minute ride, though.

Thanks, Tone. We stayed at the Hilton the other night in order to be at the hospital for pre-op stuff. We walked down Sansom to the White Dog Cafe for dinner. Both were very nice. It was obvious that the immediate area was teeming with academics.

According to Google Maps, it's only a .5 mile walk to the hotel from the hospital. Market Street to 38th or 36th and down to Sansom would be my choice. I'm just not so sure right around the hospital. I plan to be at the hospital until visiting hours are over, so it will be dark when I make the hike.

If its night, take a cab. In both cases.

Daytime you would be fine but its not worth running into the wrong person once the sun goes down.

I'm a city girl, who feels perfectly safe living here. But, that time of night, I agree that taking a cab is best.
