I am a single male 22 years of age. I may have a great job opportunity in Philadelphia but do not know anything about the city. Is it a good place for a young single male to move?

Absolutely. Look in center city (Washington Square West would be good), Queen Village or Bella Vista (both are just south of center city, easily walkable). Where is the job? If you can walk to take public transportation, don't have a car. When you need one use

Fo shizzle. Like NY without all the rudeness! Seriously I think Philly does offer a lot to a young single guy...you get all the big city benefits without most of the penalties of horrendous traffic and astronomical rents...and you're so close to DC, NYC, Baltimore, Lancaster, Poconos, Jersey and DE beaches...its a great place to be located...

It is a nice downtown with lots of nightlife. Rent in the city is affordable and it is easy to get around downtown. Recently, Phila was rated high compared to other large cities in the US for most out of shape, having a lower % of those with college degrees, and as one of the better singles cities. I came here as a transplant in my 20's and found most people grew up around the area. So you have to keep trying hard to break in to meet people if you don't happen to work with a group of people you can pal around.

I have to strongly disagree with this statement. I have lived in and around Philly my entire life. I recently accepted a new job in NY and have been there for about a month now. NYC has the reputation for people being rude and unfriendly...but it couldn't be farther from the truth. It has been a pleasant surprise to walk into shops/markets/restaurants/subways and interact with people who are super friendly and don't give you a crap load of attitude when you ask them for help/directions. Customer service (based on my experiences thus far) is MUCH better than Philly.

Just to follow up...I am not discrediting living in Philly. It's a great place to live....I have loved my time there! There is tons to do and lots of history, which I love. Again...as others have said, it really does depend on where you are coming from.
