The "Geator with the heater" has died. A Philly institution for decades, Blavat will be missed especially by older folks.

Did you ever visit his club in Margate?

RIP. Jerry was a piece of 20th century Philly we will never get back.

I doubt there are many people alive still that went to the live recordings of American Bandstand in West Philadelphia.

I don’t think anyone would accuse him of being squeaky clean. He would have done quite well for himself in Philadelphia City politics.

What? There are tons of people in their 70s (myself included) and 80s who went to the show. (Granted, I was 11 and managed to get in despite the age requirement of 14, but still.)

Thousands of kids (myself included) used to go to Jerry's dances in the 60s. Line-dancing became huge in the Philly/NJ/DE area, and it cracks me up when country music fans claim that they created line-dancing.

Jerry still had many fans/followers (myself included) and we are all really devastated at his passing, particularly because it was so sudden and he was a really fit, energetic guy even at 82. I had just seen him in November at Live Casino and he was as lively, no pun intended, as ever. I know there are DJs who play his music, but there will never be another Jerry.

I'm surprised there wasn't more reaction here.
But maybe this forms age demographics lean to the younger side -- or a lot of transplants who wouldn't really know who he was

(Just goes to show that if a person live a long time, there many not be as many people who remember you. A friend had a mom die at 95. They didn't have anyone to invite to the service -- other than family. And some of them were too old/infirm to make the trip.)
