This whole thing is scary stuff when you can claim racism when there is a locked restroom and the two people that refused to leave never bought anything. What is wrong with people? Those of you in suburbs probably don't understand locks on a restroom I guess.
Yeah I have an idea on how the locks work. Who is to say the poster did not ask for the code, use the restroom, then sit without ordering like these guys did? Certainly not you, that's how it sounded to me.

All I have seen throughout this ordeal is white person after white person (including me by the way) have done the exact same thing these guys did and were not asked to leave. If you would like to ignore all those comments, and call those people liars, that's your call but you will be called out on it.

"Buycott" is a newish term/fad going around that needs to be applied here IMO.

Now, was that hard?

Answer, no our restrooms are for customers only. Sorry. That is the answer. Then they sit down and not buy anything? Um, I don't get it. Maybe it is my age, but typically if a code or key is required that indicates that restrooms are for paying customers. Many places have this protocol in place. It seems like these two men felt otherwise and just figured they would have a seat without buying anything. That is very odd in my world. If I had to use the restroom, I would move on to a place that didn't require a key/code to get in. Seems simple enough.

IMHO, what we have are two very privileged people wanting to cause trouble in a Starbucks because Starbucks is a sign of gentrification. Plenty of anger towards them I am sure.

I feel for those employees to have to put up with all the noise regarding such a tiny thing like restrooms are for customers. It really is odd and I guess I just don't get it. All people do these days is run around looking for racism and get all excited if they can twist anything into it. Very strange times, but I feel bad for the black community due to such a story like this. It isn't helping anything really, it just makes people wonder why it is a big deal that restrooms are for customers. I see signs like that all over the city here, but Starbucks just didn't have a sign they had a code lock on the door. Seems obvious enough to anyone that lives in a city what that means! Geez.

There are quite a few balanced and thoughtful posts in this thread from the regular Philly posters. It was fully predictable, however, that this thread would draw racist trolls from elsewhere.

I’ve said about all I have to say on this incident. I’ll make this my last post in this thread.

Actually that's not the answer as one of these men asked to use the restroom, then used it. Every witness gave that account, why you still don't believe it makes no sense. Why would they leave to find a restaurant with a restroom they could use when they were meeting someone there?

This isn't about using the restroom, you realize that right?

The only starbucks I been to in Center City is the one in between 12th and 13th and Market. I never had a reason to be in the 18th and Spruce area so I never walked inside that Starbucks.

I don't blame the police, as they did their job according to the law. But if they were middle-aged white guys in suits doing the same thing, the manager would have never said a word to them.
You do not know that. And to prejudge the manager in that way--someone whom you don't know--is troubling.

While I haven't been to that Starbucks, I, as an under 30 year old black guy, have sat/used the bathroom in multiple Starbucks without buying anything (I eventually bought something, but this was after the fact and without being prompted to do so).

Ah, so its "common sense" that Starbucks managers are racist?

For as open minded and tolerant the left claims to be, you're doing an awful lot of prejudging here yourself. Making an assumption/claim that the ex-manager is racist without hearing her side of the story/knowing anything about her.

Probably because you were alone.
