I'm ready to move to the area June 1 and want to rent for a year before buying. I've found lots of sites with apartment rentals but finding a townhome or single family house has been challenging.

CL has very few where I am looking (mostly Montco but also Delco). There must be more out there but I can't find out how to connect with what is out there. Does anyone have suggestions? I need a 2BR, small pet friendly, at $2k or below. I know having pets is a limitation and $2k is a relatively modest budget but I'm not looking for a lot of ameneties or square footage. On CL I get 2 or 3 listings from the past month. There must be more but how can I find it?

Housing inventory is tight in the area. Check Zillow, Hotpads, etc etc

Tried all of those, not one SF on any of them.

You could find a local realtor and work with him/her.

Thank you for the tip, never thought of a realtor for a rental but I guess some also do that.

Try looking at realtor.com. Click the button at the top for RENT rather than for sale. I tried a Philadelphia search for $2,000 single-home rental and looked in the vicinity of Manayunk and found a bunch - then I put in cat-friendly (or do you have a dog?) and it dropped to two. But, there's a start.

Yeah, realtors have homes to rent in their listings, not just to buy.

Thanks all, I'll be in touch with a few realtors and try that site. It's finally time to lock things in.
