But a new line to KOP that no one actually wants or will use? Full speed ahead!
That will always be the one that gets me. They did all the engineering leg work for the BSL expansion and just were like "yeah, let's not do it". Which really is a shame given the relative success the Navy Yard has become.

It kills me, regional planners are like: "Where should be put the fastest growing, new job center?"

and they decide on circled area, and are like "oh man the traffic is so bad, we need to build a new rail here":

Not to let the planners off the hook, but that area's fate was pretty much foreordained when the Pennsylvania Turnpike was extended to it in 1950 with a spur expressway connecting it to Philadelphia. Extending the Turnpike to connect with the new one opened in 1951 in New Jersey just further cemented its future thanks to the belt highway passing just below the turnpike/freeway junction. The first businesses located out that way around the time the first of the two shopping centers opened, in 1965.

The Navy Yard didn't become developable until the Navy gave up almost all of it in the late 1980s.

Had the Blue Route been built earlier, maybe KofP wouldn't have become as large as it did, because that freeway's junction with the Schuylkill Expressway caused the Conshohockens to take off — and those boroughs are served by Regional Rail.

True, that's a good point. I happen to see this online earlier. Thought it was pretty interesting and goes along with what others said about it going to the University City station. Back in the day, the convention center was there and I assume there was a desire to build transit to it.

PATCO extending to the 40th St Trolley Portal would be a gamechanger.
