Because the Schuykyll is only 2 lanes much of the way,
From City Line avenue into the city, it's actually 3 lanes. It's mostly two lanes from City Line avenue going west..
If the OP gets on at City Line, and drives south into the city, It's all three lanes, iirc.

Doesn't mean it won't be slow going in rush our, but it's not two lanes.

You might try to take either Lancaster Ave all the way into the city, or maybe come down City Ave and try either Kelly Drive or West River Drive.

Back roads will very much be your friend here.
I was imagining Lancaster to 52nd St, into the park, over to West River drive, into the city. How's long would that take from Ardmore? It might take a while but wouldn't be slammed by traffic.

A good cut through would be Wynnefield, then cut across to Montgomery. Depending on the traffic, either take the Schuylkill Expressway or the Drive.

I haven't read all the responses, but, as a lifelong native, with 30+ years of Philly driving behind me, just your title makes me cringe. City Line at rush hour--horror!

Either way, Septa is the right choice from Ardmore.

agree, either 76 or backroads should be more regularly 45 mins give or take (sometimes even 30 actually, also some days 60) It wont be 1:15 from there except extenuating circumstances. Monday mornings are the worst, Friday mornings the best on commute time generally. Fridays nights are awful heading into the city but not quite as bad heading out

76 sucks but I find the worst part from City to KOP actually, while is a slow crawl it does generally move. There are also numerous other options, Kelly, West River, Lancaster etc.

Google Maps would be your friend and the route could change day to day and by direction

Like others said the train (Septa) is a very efficient option from the locales you are discussing and should not be ignored and can be at times a more pleasant commute

If you live anywhere on the Main Line. Take SEPTA if you work in Center City. It is a no brainer.

It is faster, cheaper and just plain smarter.

Express trains from Ardmore to Center City I think are under 20 minutes. (18 minutes to be exact).

You will get no where close to that driving. Plus the stress. Take SEPTA.

I use to reverse commute to the Main Line, and the drive no matter back roads or 76 is about 45 - 50 minutes on average.

Southeast Pennsylvania does not have a crazy highway network in its suburbs, rather we have a very large rail network. Take the train.

Thanks so much for all the replies. It seems like SEPTA is the way to go, and more than likely I will take the train. At the Maybrook apartments, the Wynnewood station is literally like 10 feet from the complex. It just doesn’t seem like the trains run that regularly. It seems it’s every half hour which I’m not really used to during rush hour. Many people on my new job now commute into CC and swear it’s only 20-30mins but that felt kinda wrong for a rush hour drive. I also was looking for a place to take my dog (dog day care type place) because he’s still in that puppy stage and a bundle of energy and the only places I saw were in the city. So I figured I would have to drive in and drop him in the morning.

Not true at all. You can absolutely find doggie day care in the area you are looking to move. There's Fit For a Dog in Ardmore, Doggy Day Care at Bryn Mawr Veterinary Hospital, the big chains (like PetSmart), then there are private dog walkers and in-home doggie daycare all over (go to Rover.com to find some).

Best of luck!

If you're looking at the Maybrook and One Ardmore Place there is absolutely no reason to consider driving unless you need your car with you at work. You can practically fall out of bed onto a train from those buildings.

Don't do this, people are towed regularly now.
