This. After re-reading it didn't really sound like any sort of love letter. And it was ridiculous to have stayed in Plymouth Meeting (to supposedly save money),when there's a Holiday Inn Express on Delaware Ave./Columbus Blvd right across from the Race and Cherry St Piers with the Fringe Bldg next door and other Old City amenities. Totally different experience. But hey, whoever saw the Main Line.

Well, some of us can developed a unconditional love for their hometown to adopted city they live or lived as with me. We all know the good bad and possibly ugly. But we rather not reveal as much of that on C-D.

But if a transplant from another state? You should realize how we see details in other cities we can love some and less so others to compare. It should not lessen their initial praise and complement. Or we ourselves visit other cities.

Visitors on the other hand..... generally do not use
- rose-colored glasses of highlighting only the best and fahgetabout the rest
- they see details locals just are numb to daily
- they take more time to compare to home or how the new experience impressed them and how, or less so

The OP titled the thread - " I Love Philly" MANY ACT AS, oh he had this - "ulterior motive" that every outside has. It was not all love to them.... so they just discount it and rip into it.

Seems the Philly way. It's not like trash comments were made that prove that.

I thought THE TITLE ALONE was a good one for anyone to LIST THEIR LOVE and why. Instead of crime and stereotypes, or misconceptions .... funny or meant to demean.

Too many times one is guilty of ill-motives till possibly proven otherwise that never happen for most.

I used to visit Philly more in younger years and I'm trying to get back into it. Philly is a great quaint city. Granted, I could do without the attitudes of some as far as abrasiveness, but I roll with it. There is plenty of history and great architecture. The music scene is mostly good except for some of the younger jam band hipsters. But, historically the Hooters, Jeffrey Gaines, The Teeth (really from Bethlehem), and many others are part of some great moments.

The negative is the Demoncat stronghold on the city. That old archaic Demoncat worship needs to stop. It has ruined the city in many ways. You don't have to like Trump, but geez vote for a Republican on a local level. STop the big Government insanity.

While I agree with the sentiment, every major city (except NYC) does the same thing. When comparing one city to the next, you really can't knock Philly for it.

Yes, Chicago is no better. Philadelphia is just plagued with stubborn and persistent problems that other major US cities have managed to come out of. Also, the bulk of the Philadelphia area economy is outside of city limits, which does not help the situation.

It also doesn't help that Philadelphia has a council president with no economics or business background, didn't attend college or travel internationally, and his district has a poverty rate of 36%... but I am just nitpicking.

Its called the SEPTA Key, and already works as a stored value card that can be refilled at stations, online, or automatically. It works for city transit and busses, but not fully for the regional rail (like the norristown line). It should be working fully soon, so hopefully next time you visit you can just load up a septa key and not worry about figuring out fares!

Yeah, but they really need to redo the user interfaces on just about everything - and they really blew a golden opportunity to rethink the entire fare structure.

Chicago's Ventra card, btw, uses the same technology. And I understand that the CTA's implementation of it was also a monumental clusterf***, so I guess I can't moan too much about SEPTA's.

Never mind international travel. How about domestic, even?

And this distinguishes him from the other members of City Council how?

Perhaps relevant aside, and definitely relevant to the OP's original observation: I've said of late that Philadelphia's politics resemble those of no other American city as much as they do Chicago's. The difference is, Chicagoans get something to show for the graft.
