Where in Center City should I live at closest to the South Street District?

What is there to do on South Street for 18-21 years olds?

South Street in the Greenwich Village of Philadelphia. I can't imagine an 18-21 year old not finding many things to do on South Street. The closest place to live is Queen Village, which is anywhere between 1 and 5 blocks away.

I like it more when it used to be grittier with real punks on the South street. It had character. Now too many hood rats come down on Summer nights, just to stroll and qawk at girls.

Although I was far from a goth kid in the 80's, I used to enjoy checking out Zipperhead as well as another similar store whose name I forget. It's unfortunate albeit inevitable that the area is relatively sterilized today with the arrival of Starbucks and the Gap. There's still a pretty good music selection down there even with the demise of Tower. And the restaurants aren't half-bad. And then there's The Mood and The "Kingdom".

Haha...you remember Zipperheads???
Although I was never a goth/punk but I used to go in there just to check out the stuff they had.
What about JC Dobbs? Great live music.
South Street used to have character.
Anyone remember the Revival or the Black Banana?

i remember the Revival... and on the slightly cheesier side... Flanagan's! However, by the time I became "of age" both those places had closed down so I never got to experience them. Woe is me.

I loved the Black Banana - both on South Street and when they moved to 3rd and Race(?). South Street is defintely not the same for us "oldtimers." But to a youngun, it's still the place to be.

Wow, do I ever remember Revival...some crazy times there, of course, I was underage. And a good friend of mine worked at Zipperheads. Actually, that's true of most of the old shops and boutiques there . Yes, I was one of those punk rock girls and I think the charm of South Street has disappeared somewhat......but still, there is a lot to do there.
