I particularly like the way this building is using the old buildings like a pedestal

Yes, it will blend well with the surroundings being built on historic buildings, and from a far it will be a great addition to the skyline. Lets just hope for quality exterior materials!

I don't think we will ever get to that level of height, but I do see an increase in the 500ft+ towers in Center City, and nothing wrong with that (IMO). I am tired of short, fat and usually cheap mc-towers, I really like Arthaus, The Laurel is turning out well, and this proposal looks to be great too, as long as it has quality exterior materials.

Overbuilds are the way to go and there is no excuse why it's not feasible in Center City. The Toll Brothers disaster on Jewelers Row should have followed this idea, the ROI is there, they are just cheap and the historic commission can't keep up.

I hope all of this will add to a re-birth of retail on Walnut / Chestnut. Equinox is still slated to open in The Laurel, great for the area.

Agree on all points, and yes, the Jeweler's Row situation is a travesty. Absolutely cannot happen again (Toll Brothers is on my s*it list for what they've done).

But back to the point, the resilience of Center City continues to impress; really starting to gain a Manhattan-lite vibe, which is so cool to see. Nice to finally be able to exhale at least a little after one of the most difficult year for big cities in decades.

Retail will be the last sector to recover, but I think we'll slowly buy surely see some creative concepts reinvigorate old spaces as time goes on, which will help to attract renewed interest in the city again as well.

Is there still something out there regarding an overbuild of that CVS building on 19th and Chestnut? I can't remember if there is something concrete proposed.
