Did a search and didn't see anything come up for related threads, so started this. Wondering if folks here have had any experience with adding a 3rd story to their 2-story rowhouse. Live in a neighborhood where I think it would be worth it, but not sure about how to go about it. I see some other projects around I liked by Gnome architects and 3rd story Philly, so not sure if anyone has dealt with them or have any other suggestions. I realize costs and timeframes are going to be drastically different based on what was in scope for the project (full rehab vs just adding a story), still any experiences to share with that or dealing with getting neighbors on board, permits, contractors, etc. would be helpful just to know what to expect. Probably looking at ripping off the roof and adding an additional story (master bed and bathroom) ~500sf + roof deck, Also would want to do other work like renovate kitchen (open it to dining room) and basement at the same time assuming it would be cheaper that way.

It always helps to actually read someone's post.

Skipped over that part. Nevertheless adding a 3rd floor to an existing row house presents a lot of problems as outlined in the "3rd story Philly" website. OP, is this such a desirable location that you're willing to go through all of the hassles in order to get a building permit not to mention the actual construction?

yeah, I'm assuming it's going to be a long/drawn-out process. The location is worth it though; I can walk to anywhere I need to and close to the train. 3 people have proven to be a crowd for a 2-story row and we're not really suburb people. The alternative would be to get a cabin in the poconos to get out every once in a while, but owning two homes seems like it might be an even bigger headache. I'm just curious to hear from others who have gone through the process or worked with some of these contractors to get it done.
