I relocated to center city two months ago and it's time to seek out a new dentist. So many dentists "mine the mouth" for revenue that I feel I cannot trust a random pick. I'm looking for an honest dentist that doesn't try to maximize revenue from each patient. The dentist doesn't need to be the best or the cheapest, just honest.

Any recommendations?

I once went to a dentist that said I had 20 cavities (I hadn't been to a dentist in the previous five years). I let him fill four of them in one sitting, charging me a small fortune. He barely did any drilling. I moved and went to a new dentist that said I had no cavities. I never had any of the remaining mythical cavities filled and never had any problems.

I'm nearly 66 and every time a new dentist looks into my mouth and sees my wisdom teeth, they become ecstatic at the revenue possibilities of removing them. I always have to talk them down and they don't like it. When I moved from NYC over 21 years ago, my dentist made me promise I would NEVER let a dentist pull those wisdom teeth unless they were bothering me. Just use a tuft brush to clean them regularly. My cousin, who is a dentist, laughs about that and says pulling wisdom teeth are one of the dentists' major revenue generators.

I've been very happy with Penchalonis Dental on 21st street: https://www.philadelphiapadental.com/

I've been going there for 10 years and, to be fair, only during my last visit did he finally find a cavity

But it's usually pretty quick, in and out, and he's very friendly. I recently recommended a friend who had their first dental appointment in years and no cavaties, so think the evidence is pretty good that there's no mouth mining.

This dentist group is excellent too!

Very on-point with various reminders if you want them- text and/or e-mail, 2 weeks before, 2 weeks before and 3 days before, etc.
