The show was created by a Philly native and is set in Philly but filmed in LA.

As a teacher in Philadelphia, I enjoy the show. It highlights many of the struggles and joys of teaching in the city, and they try to capture some uniquely Philadelphian tropes. It is easy watching and surely a bit clichéd. I love that they brought our guy behind the scenes. This reminds me it's a show I can put on when I need to relax a bit.

LA has neighborhoods with block after block of twin houses?

I do remember that the Season 2 teaser features the cast walking down a street where you can see the Frankford El clearly in the background, so the crew had to do some location shooting here this time around.* (The street lined with twins is the one Quinta Brunson is driving down in the opening shots of S2 E1.)

Loved that first episode. Including the part where Jake, who learned ASL over the summer, acts as "interpreter" for Gritty. It's worth my exorbitant Xfinity cable bill to be able to watch it on demand after forgetting to record it without paying for Hulu.

*Edited to add: And I note that there have been other series set but not shot in Philadelphia whose producers came to the conclusion that they needed to shift at least some of the shooting to the city itself for authenticity's sake with the passing of the seasons. "Cold Case's" first season was shot entirely in LA, but by season three, you noticed that many establishing and outdoor shots had more recognizably Philadelphian features in them.

My wife and I enjoy it. My experience is absolutely fleeting compared to the past and present full-time educators here, but when I was in law school I did some volunteer teaching at Philadelphia’s public K-8 schools. The teachers I met are quite reminiscent of the personalities in the series.

Lisa Ann Walter does a great Philly accent common among white women of a certain age.

I enjoy the show for interspersing humor while highlighting the plight of Philadelphia schools as an example of the challenges that other larger urban districts face. Having a number of loved ones who are or were educators, I'm sympathetic to what they go through. And I'm proud of both Quinta Brunson and "naturalized" Philadelphian Sheryl Lee Ralph for their recent Emmy achievements.

To your point, I recently worked with a lady whose voice was a dead ringer for Lisa Ann Walter's character.
