And the plus for suburbanites to vote to join Philly would be what?

What would they get that they don't get now by just being so close over the line....other than the higher car insurance and having to pay the city wage tax I mean.

Pennsylvania like many other states have a long history of combining different counties to become one county

When was last time two Counties in Pennsylvania merged? Split into two more? Yes. In the 1800s.

Here is the statute that governs municipal mergers:

As a note, unless forced by the Legislature (and that's questionable) both entities have to agree to merge.

DuBois and Sandy Township have been in talks to merge for years. They were about one document away from doing it recently. Then the DuBois Town Manager resigned and is being investigated for embezzlement and bribery. It was put on hold.

And that is probably why this won't happen, it would require elected officials to eliminate their own jobs. Similarly, there has been noise about shrinking our massive, and expensive, state legislature but no one is nuking their own career.

It would be a cooler idea if Delaware joined Pennsylvania instead of suburbs joining Philadelphia.

Only if that meant the whole state of Pennsylvania wouldn't have sales tax anymore.

Same here. I'm not far from Montgomery County and wish they would annex my neighborhood.

Welcome Debbie! 2 posts so far...

Post #1: A comment about George Floyd in the retail thread.
Post #2: Wishing your neighborhood was in Montgomery County instead of Philadelphia.

I'm sure more good to come!

I'm not gonna go postal - I'll leave that to my neighbor - but what's in it for me? Better schools? Lower taxes and/or overall lower cost of living? Better law enforcement? Better municipal services?
